Enjoy Homemade Pizzas with Custom Toppings

Last week, I decided to recreate a mouthwatering pizza my husband and I enjoyed at Pizza Express. It was a vegetarian version of the Hawaiian pizza with a delightful bechamel sauce topping. Inspired, I found a recipe online and set out to make our own veggie Hawaiian Pizza.

Table of Contents

Ingredients:

  • 500g pack of ready bread mix (with active yeast included) or bread flour and yeast
  • 1 cup of bechamel sauce
  • 7-8 spoonfuls of homemade pineapple chutney
  • 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese (or any cheese of your choice)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 1 cup of sliced peppers
  • 1 cup of pineapple cubes (tinned)
  • 2-3 sliced cherry tomatoes
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • A few jalapenos (to taste)
  • A few hot green chilies (to taste)
  • 1 tbsp of oregano

Method:

  1. Begin by preparing the bread dough according to the instructions on the packet. I added 3-4 cloves of grated garlic to enhance the flavor of the base. Once the dough is ready, turn it onto a floured surface and let it rest for 5 minutes. Knead the dough for 2-3 minutes and let it rest for another 5 minutes. Shape the dough into pizza shapes and cover them with a lightly dampened cloth. Let the pizza bases rise in a warm place for an hour or until they have doubled in size. Remember to keep the pizza base thin as it will double in size during resting. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 230ºC/Fan 210ºC/Gas Mark 8.

  2. Once the pizza dough has risen, bake it for 5 minutes. Afterward, it’s time to add the toppings. Spread the bechamel sauce followed by the pineapple chutney. Add your favorite toppings and finish with grated cheese. Sprinkle some oregano and cook the pizza for an additional 8-10 minutes at 230ºC/Fan 210ºC/Gas Mark 8.

  3. Add your preferred garnishings and savor the crispy pizza with bechamel sauce instead of tomato sauce. The combination of pineapple chutney and pineapple toppings creates the perfect vegetarian Hawaiian Pizza. Now, you can enjoy this delectable treat in the comfort of your home.
