If you’re like me, you might be wondering if cooking Wagyu ground beef requires any special techniques. The answer is, not really. However, there are some distinct differences in the beef itself.

What is Wagyu beef?

Wagyu beef comes from a Japanese cattle breed that was originally used as draft animals. This breed is known for having more intra-muscular fat cells, resulting in abundant marbling and exceptionally rich meat.1

Is Wagyu healthier?

Compared to other ground beef, Wagyu beef is considered healthier due to its higher percentage of monounsaturated fatty acids. These acids can lower LDL cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol) while increasing HDL-cholesterol (the “good” cholesterol).2 Additionally, Wagyu beef is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are essential for your well-being!3

What is the fat percentage of Wagyu beef?

Top-quality Wagyu beef can boast of 45-60% marbled fat, whereas regular Top Grade USDA Prime beef usually has 8-12% fat. Wagyu ground beef typically contains a medium to high percentage of fat, around 20-25%.

How should you cook a Wagyu hamburger?

Given the high fat content of Wagyu beef, it is best to cook it at high temperatures for a shorter duration. Aim for a seared, crunchy exterior and a juicy, tender interior. As this beef is of premium quality, it is recommended to enjoy it medium rare (cooked to an internal temperature of 130-140°F).

While there are various methods to cook burgers, I highly recommend grilling or using a cast iron pan for Wagyu burgers. Both methods allow for high-temperature cooking and require just a few minutes of your time.

How to make Wagyu Burgers?

Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to making delicious Wagyu burgers:

  • Shape the ground Wagyu beef into patties and season with salt and pepper.
  • Preheat your skillet or grill on high heat. If using a skillet, add a small amount of oil.
  • Place the patties in the pan and sear both sides. Flip the patties every 30 seconds until they reach an internal temperature of 130°F. (I recommend using this meat thermometer- affiliate link).
  • If grilling, cook the patties for two minutes on each side before flipping again. Continue cooking until they reach your desired internal temperature.

Where can you buy Wagyu beef?

Wagyu beef is becoming more widely available in grocery stores across the US, with retailers like Walmart and Costco offering it. Additionally, fast food restaurants like Arby’s even serve Wagyu burgers.

However, not all Wagyu beef is equal. When it comes to quality, I personally love getting my Wagyu beef, as well as all my meat, from Good Ranchers. They source their meat from American Ranchers, ensuring top-notch quality.

I’ve previously shared a few recipes featuring their meat, such as the mouthwatering Steak Pasta and the delicious Grilled Chicken Nuggets. The flavor and quality of Good Ranchers’ meat always exceed my expectations.

While Good Ranchers provided me with some of their beef to sample, this post is not sponsored. I genuinely believe that their beef is outstanding, and I encourage everyone to give it a try!
