World-Class Barbecue Teams
The Sun BBQ Fest proudly welcomes World Food Championship (WFC) sanctioned barbecue teams from across the country. Prepare to be amazed by these talented competitors as they showcase their skills and flavors that have wowed judges nationwide. Plus, stick around until Sunday for the ultimate celebration, where WFC contest winners will receive over $26,000 in prizes.
BBQ Beyond Belief
Join us at the BBQ Fest Chef Demo Stage, hosted by the renowned Chef Plum, and learn from the best in the business. Get insider tips and tricks from acclaimed chefs like Chad Rosenthal and Matt Groark. Connecticut’s very own Bear’s Smokehouse will also be on hand to share their saucy recipe details. Discover the art of BBQ and elevate your grilling game!
Ribs & Wings Galore
Be part of the action as Mohegan Sun pulls back the curtain and invites festival-goers to take part in the judging process. Sample mouthwatering $2 BBQ samples from participating World Food Championship teams and feast your way through the day before casting your vote for the best in show. The winners will be announced during the Sunday Awards Ceremony at 4:00pm.
Don’t miss the thrilling Rib and Wing Challenges! For a $5 entry, you can savor five delicious ribs or wings and vote for your favorites. The Rib Challenge Tent will be open on Saturday from Noon – 2:30pm, and the Wing Challenge Tent will be open on Saturday from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. Best of all, a portion of the proceeds from both competitions will benefit Operation BBQ Relief, an organization dedicated to providing meals to disaster-stricken communities across the U.S.

Get ready to groove to the sounds of live music throughout the weekend. On Saturday, June 17th, be sure to catch performances by Kameron Marlowe, HunterGirl, Red Light, and more. It’s the perfect opportunity to let loose, enjoy your favorite BBQ, and dance the night away. And don’t forget to stick around for the spectacular firework display on Saturday night at approximately 9:15pm.
For those looking for friendly competition, join the pro-standard Cornhole Tournament hosted by Wicked Cornhole. Visit SUNBBQFEST.COM to sign up and download the “Scoreholio” app. Each winning team will take home $250 in cash, a one-night free hotel stay, and two tickets to a show at Mohegan Sun Arena (for available dates). Additionally, Big Dog’s Mobile Axe Throwing will be available for guests ages 12 and up. Walk-ups are welcome throughout the day, adding even more fun to the Sun BBQ Fest 2023.
